Hi Dr Sam, can I mix a full finger of elta md uv clear tinted (spf 46) with another full finger of IT cosmetics your skin but better (spf 50)? Together they make up around 1/4 tsp. I find it too thick to layer them, and this combination gives me the best medium coverage. Does this reduce the efficacy of the protection? Please help me! 🥹 thank you!
Love your hair and makeup
So beautiful
Bioderma nude touch ❤
What are the best ingredients to look for in a face sunscreens for sensitive (eczema prone) – to dry skin. How much % zinc oxide?
I’m on isotretinoin 0.05 and I’m using the beauty of joseon chemical sunscreen. It burns the moment I put it on my skin. Do you have any alternatives or what would you recommend ?
What about mineral sunscreens that have citrus oils in their ingredients? Can this make your skin sun sensitive?
2:19 Dr. Ellis, I think there really needs to be a mineral sunscreen that’s good for sensitive skin, offers maximum SPF (SPF 50), applies in an elegant way (smooth; good under makeup; not patchy, flaky or pilling), and comes in 3 tints (Light, Medium, Dark). It has been very difficult for me to find anything like this when it comes to mineral sunscreens. As someone with light skin myself, I cannot find a good tinted mineral sunscreen that looks nice on light skin (all of the tinted ones are too dark for me, yet the untinted ones leave an unpleasant white cast). I recently came across the Kari Gran mineral sunscreen, which does come in 3 tints (Light, Medium, Dark), but that one is so expensive (costs about $60 for a 1 oz bottle) and it only has SPF 30 but I’m looking for SPF 50 because I have fair skin and want the maximum protection. The fact that it’s so expensive for a very small bottle makes it something I can’t use on a regular basis, which defeats the point of sunscreen if I use it only once in a while.
A good mineral sunscreen that is easy to wear everyday is really a must. Personally, my main concern is that I have sensitive skin which reacts to a lot of skincare products (my skin doesn’t even like common ingredients like ‘hyaluronic acid’), so I really need a mineral sunscreen that’s made for sensitive skin. I’ve tried multiple mineral sunscreens that were made for sensitive skin, and I often found them soothing (probably because of the zinc oxide), but they really sucked when it came to the application. Even though I have fair skin, they all left an unpleasant white cast on me. They were pilling, patchy, flaky, and even though they often looked okay right after I applied them, they looked awful after they dried up. There was no way they could be used under makeup either. That experience deterred me from using sunscreen.
Even though mineral sunscreens tend to not look so great when applied to the skin, chemical sunscreens aren’t really an option for me either, mainly because I have sensitive skin. Plus, I know that you don’t see a problem with chemical sunscreens, but I personally find it concerning that some of the chemical filters are able to enter the bloodstream. Systemic absorption is definitely a concern, and I don’t think it needs to be “proven” that these chemicals lead to anything health-wise, because any chemicals that are potential endocrine-disrupters entering the bloodstream will be interacting with the different systems of the body, and I highly doubt that science has studied all of the different ways that these chemicals interact with our bodies. The studies that explore this in depth might not have been done yet. I’m not saying that chemical sunscreens are necessarily bad, but I’m just saying that some of the concerns over them are legitimate.
So, due to these reasons, it’s important for some great mineral sunscreens to be developed. I know *Prequel* offers a mineral sunscreen, but I wish it was offered in at least *3 different tints (Light, Medium, and Dark),* and I wish the formulation would be perfected so the sunscreen sits beautifully on the face and goes well with makeup, while still being great for sensitive skin.
I am in the world of frontal, fibrosing, alopecia, and some people have some concerns that titanium dioxide could be linked to FFA. It’s really hard to find a mineral sunscreen that doesn’t have at least a little bit of titanium dioxide. I know there are plenty of dermatologists that also say there’s no link, or know that can be proven. I would love to know your opinion. And which sunscreen would you recommend for the face that has zinc but zero TD?
My husband would like a mineral sunscreen so he can apply it underneath his eye lids but most minerals are tinted and he doesn’t want that! He also has rosacea and acne prone skin.
Really surprised you didn’t talk about any of the toxic chemicals absorbed into your body with chemical sunscreens… 😳🙄🤡
I find it very strange that you didn’t point out that the state of Hawaii and other places with coral reefs don’t allow most chemical sunscreens.
You are wrong. Chemical sunscreens darken your skin because it converts the sun light into heat which flairs imflammation, causing blood to pool in the area, darkening your skin tone. Zinc just reflects, of course law of physics state that some of that light is converted to heat, but its not as much as chemical suncreen.
So you dont get a bronzing effect from zinc oxide, but you will from chemical sunscreens.
I have both rosacea and struggle with perioral dermatitis (and in general sensitive skin). I use mild cleanser (CeraVe hydrating cleanser) and moisturizer (LRP Toleriane dermallergo cream) now which helps on this. But I need help finding a sunscreen/cc cream/bb cream which both covers up some of the rosacea and also is PD friendly. What can I try?

Look great wow
Hello, Thank you for this video. I’ve been using La Roche Posay Anthelios Oil Correct for a while but trying to find other options. I found the Allies of Skin – The One SPF 50 Invisible Sunscreen Gel option that seems to be a good option under makeup and people say it’s so good for sensitive skin, it does not sting at all.
Did you ever try it or know about it?
Thank you so much! I love your videos ❤
wow thanks for the info. I’m using a mineral sunscreen for 2 months now, it has no white cast and does not absorb heat, it also hydrates without feeling oily. I bought it from Sephora and it’s called Ghostbuster by Lion Pose.
whatever skincare or makeup you used in this video is PERFECT! Just the right amount of glow and makeup. Natural pretty.
Am also in Nor Cal Bay Area 😊
I just bought a mineral sunscreen from Sephora called Ghostbuster by Lion Pose. WOuld you mind checking on it? Thanks
silly question – should one get water-resistant sunscreen (per sweat) if they’re active and sweating outside? or is non-water resistant ok?
Hi, I know this video is a bit old. I finally started wearing facial sunscreen day about a year ago at age 55. I saw a recommendation for La Roche Posay minderal sunscreen, and was initially using their regular one, then discovered by accident that there was one that was tinted, which I think looks a lot better.
My one question as a guy is this – I’ve never worn makeup, or even a moisturizer (well up until a year ago when I started using CeraV PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion, but in the morning before I put on my subscreen. I also wear a hat to protect my balding head, and I also put sunscreen on my neck and ears so that I’m protected in these exposed areas as well. The problem I have is that the hat gets stained with either the white or the tint depending on which sunscreen I use, and my colored shirts do as well. So, I guess I’m wondering if there is a particular type of sunscreen formulation that has less potential to do that, or is this something that is always a problem regardless? Do women who use makeup have this issue with their clothes, or if not, how is it avoided?
Sorry for such a newbie basic question! Thanks for your video, it was very helpful!
I want a sunscreen that dosent absorb heat
The myth around pigmentation and chemical SPF is perpetuated or possibly even created by ‘Dr V’ aka Dr Vanita Rattan. She spreads a lot of disinformation and misinformation about skin of colour that is harmful IMO.
The white cast can act as a primer…
Your lake up and lighting look great ❤
Do not use the lakmee sunscreen. It makes your skin appear darker and gives you a drained appearance. I m currently using the littlllextras riceberry sunscreen, its great. Its simple to apply, does not leave any white cast and does not darken.
Time to take out the teaspoons
Hmm, never heard of most of these sunscreens!
Pipette was my holy grail, but it appears to have been discontinued.
The colorscience flex since it’s thick will it cause acne?
Can you comment on the ingredients Butyloctyl and Tridecyl Salicylate in Colorescience sunscreens? Are they still safe for pregnancy? I have been soooo hesitant! Thank you!
I would love to know what moisturiser is best to layer under a zinc oxide sunscreen? Are there any ingredients we should avoid when using zinc oxide sunscreen? (I use Ultra Violette Lean Screen, which is fairly thick) Thank you!
My new favorite is Hueguard 3-in-1 SPF 30. It’s a tinted mineral sunscreen with very clean ingredients.
Does mineral spf still needs to be reapplied every 2-3 hrs? It becomes very messy after reapplying especially if its tinted🤦🏻♂️
Ethical Zinc daily sunscreen is gorgeous for dry sensitive skin. Original and light or dark tinted versions. 22% zinc. They claim it’s a special type of non-nano Zno that protects against more UVA. Made in Oz. Warehouse also ships from US. Love it. ❤
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I purchased the CeraVe mineral sunscreen .At first I didn’t like the white cast but after I applied my foundation I loved the way my makeup looked !👍
I’ve faced acne since my early tween years, and after starting to use rice berry sunscreen by liittllextra, my skin is very sensitive, extremely dry, and still very prone to breakouts and flare-ups. I strongly suggest this sun screen if you have sensitive, dry skin and are dealing with acne. I usually layer it over rice berry moisturizer and it feels amazing! It’s incredibly moisturizing and makes my skin feel plump, does not sting my eyes or the rest of my face whatsoever, and from what I can tell, the sunscreen itself has not contributed to my breakouts. It imparts a lovely glow, which boosts my confidence about my skin despite the severe acne. I highly recommend this sunscreen! There is light at the end of the tunnel my fellow acne-struggling friends
I hate physical sun screen….they dry me out like crazy by the end of the day…can’t you give me an idea about a good tinted chemical sunscreen that is tinted enough to be used as a light makeup…..because that’s what I like to do thank you
Can the turmeric in the kinship spf cause photoxicity
Is cancer council everyday value (orange one) a chemical or physical sunscreen?
I’ve watched a ton of sunscreen videos but one thing no one seems to cover is -what sunscreens should I use when I reapply? For context, I use mineral sunscreen since I have skin sensitivity and then apply my makeup on top of it. However, what sunscreens would be best to reapply throughout the day on top of my makeup to minimize having to reapply my makeup? What is the best way to apply sunscreen on top of makeup? Would love more guidance on that. Thanks!
how about the fact that several chemicals in these sunscreen are considered carcinogens
Hi, what do you think about Papa Recipe mineral Sunscreen?
Can we use tinted sunscreens mineral for toddlers?
Wow you are so pretty, your eyes and whole face is symmetrical. You have really nice eyes. : )
Are you single? ❤
