The next stage of clean beauty will be to sell products without any preservatives at all and tell people to toss them after a few days. And then the natural way of things will be for tons of people not to do this step and to put moldy product on their faces in the effort to be “clean”. It’s all a scam, one that is based heavily in classism and capitalism.
How do you feel about those apps where you scan a product and it tells you how safe it is? I’m assuming those are scams from all the new info I’m learning
Please can you do a deep dive on nail polish? I got loads for Christmas but seen that formaldehyde resin and camphor are in the formula so now I don’t know if they are safe to use 😢 I’ve watched your other clean beauty video on polish but it seemed more about salons and ventilation rather than someone doing their own nails at home using polish, not gel. I’d hate to not be able to use my new polishes and waste them but I don’t know what’s scare mongering and what’s not! Thank you for all your videos and how informative they are!
For me, “clean” would really mean “minimal” or “we didn’t add unnecessary fragrance or bs to hike up a price or add a trendy ingredient into a formula where it’s really not going to actually benefit you or do anything”
Im looking for something that has the ingredients needed for the product to function and if it’s going to have a fragrance at all, for it to be one that it’s a known irritant and for it to be listed on the package as more than just “fragrance.”
(I’m allergic to lavender and some other related ingredients used for fragrance and the beauty industry’s insistence on not listing WHAT fragrance is being used is such a nightmare when it’s used in soaps and cleansers)
I am so happy the EU changed regulations conserning MI after they noticed the spike in allergy. The amount of Methylisothiazolinone allowed in rinse out cosmetic products are now very low. MI, and the cousin MCI (methylchloroisothiazolinone), are banned from leave-on products.
I am so sick of clean beauty. You buy a product and within a few months it has gone off! Such a waste of money.
Thank you for mentioning the alternative ingredients that often cause more irritation and formulation issues.
Have you reviewed ‘Reduction of daily-use parabens and phthalates reverses accumulation of
cancer-associated phenotypes within disease-free breast tissue of study subjects’ ?
I was first kinda shocked when I found parabene in one skincare product I use. But as the product gave me less issues than "clean skincare", I kept using it. I really appreciate the info you always share with us.
"Clean beauty" is just a scam as a whole. I never understood why there is a whole section dedicated to this scam in beauty stores. If you are so afraid of putting chemicals on your face just use water to clean your face and wear a hat and mask for sun protection. Done. Nothing cleaner than that.
About tap water: here in Mexico (and I think also many of latinoamerican countries) it’s absolutely not common to drink tap water, I think some people from the central areas (like CDMX or idk Guadalajara) do it but yeah it’s not common. We (or at least me and the people i know) usually buy these giant bottles of 20L of water and works just fine.
We don’t drink tap water because we know it wouldn’t be the cleanest water, there are moments and places where the water comes out of the faucet with a light brown color, so yeah…
Clean beauty is more than just chemical ingredients. It is also about the processing, producing, packaging. There are many things happen outside those ingredient list. One example, u know that some farmers sun dry the rice directly on the ground without mat and chicken walk on that, poo on that rice, the next day the rice is packed and sent to the processing center to make rice face mask. 😂 That is just one light example, worse things happen in conventional production. The reason i don’t use clean beauty is the price too high for me. But if u have money n want it, just buy it. Certified clean beauty producers must treat all raw materials as if for food. Hygiene is not compromised.
Hi! Where do you usually find articles, when you do research? The page, which you show in the video, doesn’t look like the sources, which I usually use, so maybe you can say, what is it?🥺👉👈
I actually want my skincare products with parabens and my deodorants with aluminum because of you. Thank you for providing us the actual science behind these ingredients and how they work in our products. I also hate the term “clean beauty” and “natural.” If it didn’t come from another planet, it naturally came from earth…lol. Thank you again for your great channel. 😊❤
I agree with the fact that the majority of clean beauty brands are scams, but on the other hand, there also are honest clean beauty brands, that genuinely are concerned about certain ingredients, ways of processing them, obtained, etc. Yes, some of them might be clueless or misinformed about some ingredients, but there must be one that it’s actually good, right?
There is a product line that considers them as clean beauty and helpful for sensitive skin. I tried it for a while. And while they say you have to push through the burn. It rashes up my face after a couple days use… I really wanted to love this product because my friend sells it. And it’s Korean beauty set. But this really resonates with me.
My grandma’s allergist or dermatologist (I forget which, it was a while back when we discussed this) says she can tell when parabens stopped being used here as the number of people with allergic reactions and different types of contact dermatitis shot through the roof. Sometimes the replacements for such ingredients are worse.
I remember learning about those alternatives and them being referred to as the “itchy M’s”. This was when I was just starting to get into the curly girl method and wondered why my scalp itched SO MUCH. I’ve stayed away from these ever since.
We were raging about this back when the parabene hetz was at it’s peek som 10-15 years ago. Anyone who knew anything about Beaty product manufacturing were yelling “the alternatives are worse and so full of unknowns…” No one cared enough to listen to science (oh how people have not learned…) I have always said, you cry about parabenes in your products, yet yiu feed you children strawberries and lollies… What do you think preserves the food you eat🤔🫣
Being allergic to methylisothiazolinone really sucks! Ever since I’ve found out I’m allergic to it I have such a limited amount of products to use. Yes, my hands are no longer bleeding 😅but I’d love to have some nice products again!😢 I want a good smelling lotion, darn it!😂
As an aesthetician I’m so over "clean beauty". I have to constantly educate my clients on the parabens = breast cancer myth and why preservatives are a good thing. People were complaining about Patrick Ta’s palette and a few other ones growing literal mold. That’s what clean beauty does! Use it in 90 days and then toss it bc it’s no longer safe 🤷🏽♀️ Parabens are not the enemy.
I have learned so much from you about products that I thought were "bad" for you. I will continue to watch you and be amazed at the lies other people (companies) told me. It’s fascinating how wrong I’ve been about ingredients and that "homework" I’ve done was mostly in vain. It’s really frustrating and aggravating trying to muddle through all the jargon and BS when trying to use "clean" products. I’m done worrying about using parabens and a bunch of other stuff too. Thank you!
It’s crazy how alot of "clean" brands that don’t like parabens but those "M" words are worse and even board certified dermatologist Dr. Dray here on YouTube explains all of that when she talks about Dollar Tree bodywash which she states those "M" ingredients can be a potential allegen for alot of ppl.
The term "clean" as a buzzword in general has become so annoying to me. It’s probably still a thing but a few years ago there was a health kick of "clean eating" or "clean food" that used to chap my hide because it meant absolutely nothing, since anything considered "healthy" was considered "clean" especially if it was something priced out of the everyday person’s budget, even if it was way worse for you than something that wasn’t "clean." It’s something that can be applied to anything labeled as "clean" especially when talking about aesthetics.
This is misleading as F
Yes if you are a bad formulator you will just replace paraben with MTZ but real clean formulator don’t do that. And yes paraben is bad for many skins. It has been proven and all the paraben diabolisation did not happen out of nowhere
so true

Whenever I see kathon being used I die a little inside.
Can you make one on beef tallow?
Thank you so much for highlighting this. As someone wirh serious contact dermatitis if it says clean and natural it usually means to stay far away
Your channel needs to be viewed by everyone.
hoping that i win non allergen of the year in 2024 i think i have a good shot

at least my dear friend phenoxyethanol is there for me

Parabens make my skin itch
Thnx Muffin. I’ll take a parade any day.
My skin tends to react to ‘natural’ brands. I thought it was the essential oils, but perhaps it’s this instead
I wouldn’t say "clean beauty" has good intentions…they want the money honey
BRING BACK PARABENS!
I was first kinda shocked when I found parabene in one skincare product I use. But as the product gave me less issues than "clean skincare", I kept using it. I really appreciate the info you always share with us.

No one said parabens were allergens
Yes! And btw, your book is SO GOOD! Thank you for being a voice of reason

I have allergies to these chemicals, they are in so many things from washing powder, to hand soap to shampoo.

Wow. Thank you for sharing this 😊
Welp. Thats probably why i cant use a lot of simple/cleN/natural products 😅
My grandma’s allergist or dermatologist (I forget which, it was a while back when we discussed this) says she can tell when parabens stopped being used here as the number of people with allergic reactions and different types of contact dermatitis shot through the roof. Clean beauty is NOT well intentioned, it’s a money making scheme
Its concerning how much misinformation is affecting society due to medical/scientific adivce being less streamlined than in previous decades

I remember Lush calling this out way back out in the day. This coupled with all their charitable causes just makes me wanna support them more.
Parabens are the new Gluten 🤦🏾♀️
Being allergic to methylisothiazolinone really sucks! Ever since I’ve found out I’m allergic to it I have such a limited amount of products to use. Yes, my hands are no longer bleeding 😅but I’d love to have some nice products again!😢 I want a good smelling lotion, darn it!😂
Bath and body works took out sulfates and parabens and their hand soaps are SO DRYING now

No parabens means less effective preservatives. Less preservatives means the product goes bad quicker, that means you’ll repurchase more often
Glad that I have found this channel
Now i understand why the "sensitive skin friendly" body washes make me itch so damn much. Thank you. Bring on the parabens.
